Pedobear’s Appearance at Penn State Game Leaves Bad Taste in Our Mouth

In the past few months I have observed a curious phenomenon in the college and professional sports circles. It seems that any kind of hurtful, damaging, homophobic, racist language or behavior gets swept under the rug or written off. Well, I am here to call bullshit. I’m done with it. As an athlete and fan of professional and college sports, I am putting my foot down.

Yesterday Kevin wrote a story about an Alabama fan trying to sell t-shirts which had language that is damaging to the LGBT community. Notice how I said that the language is damaging, not ‘can be interpreted as damaging’. “Hey homos” is a reference to calling people homosexuals. Isolating a group of people and singling them out is discrimination. This isn’t okay. Not ever. Sorry sports fans, your bubble of immunity has been popped.

Something about bowl season is really bringing out the ugly in people. Last Monday Penn State played The University of Houston in the TicketCity Bowl. As many of you probably know, Penn State dismissed their coach earlier this year after questions around his response to preventing a string of child molestations was questioned. Penn State has one of the most celebrated football programs in the country and the loss of their coach was a huge blow. Media coverage of the scandal has been interesting to say the least.

So imagine my surprise when I saw the image below. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the PedoBear character, he is a made up meme who is intended to make light of pedophiliac behavior. A fan came to the game dressed as PedoBear and held up a sign that said ‘Keep Quiet and Don’t Tell Anyone.’ Really? Is this the world we live in today? How in the hell did this end up on the jumbotron for a packed stadium to see? What kind of message does this send? Pedophilia is funny?

Last time I checked it was 2012. What in the hell is going on? I am just as disappointed to see this image as I am in reading some of the responses to our story yesterday accusing UB of overreacting or not being able to take a joke. I have been disappointed in the response to Kobe Bryant’s half hearted apology for screaming the ‘F word’ at a referee after a disputed call.

I’d love to hear what you guys think. Do athletes and people in professional sports live in a bubble where they are immune from retribution for homophobic, racist and all around insensitive behavior?

Rush Limbaugh Insists Jerry Sandusky Is 'A Gay Guy'

It was only a matter of time before we heard from  this idiot....I figured it would have been sooner....

Radio host Rush Limbaugh on Friday suggested that the “gay lobby” has pressured the media into not mentioning that Jerry Sandusky is “a gay guy,” Equality Matters reported.

Sandusky, a former coach at Penn State, has been accused of sexually molesting at least 8 underage boys, charges Sandusky has denied.

A caller said that “we're always told that homosexuals are not pedophiles, but in this case, he sure was. And the same thing with Michael Jackson.”

Limbaugh replied: “Sandusky does not represent all of all homosexuality, just like the priests in the Catholic Church don't represent all of homosexuality, just like the aberrant criminals in heterosexual society don't represent all heterosexuals.”

“But because the gay lobby is very powerful, people don't go there. People don't address it, they don't talk about it, and as such, an element of the problem never gets dealt with.”

Limbaugh added that “Sandusky has to be – he's a gay guy. Nobody's mentioning that aspect, because it's just too dangerous.”

Peter LaBarbera and AFTHA Use The Penn State Tragedy And It’s Victims To Promote Their Anti-Gay Agenda

The shock and sadness of what has happened to over 100 children at Penn State University has touched everyone in the country..  But it has touched none so much as disgusting anti-gay activists like Peter LaBarbera, the president of Naperville, Ill.-baesd Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) who are blatantly using this tragedy and its innocent victims to push thier hateful anti-gay agenda.

LaBarbera, who falsely keeps claiming that Jerry Sandusky’s horrid actions are the result of being gay even though Sandusky identifies as heterosexual, is married, and has grown children is now blaming LGBT-rights advocates for having a hand in  perpetuating sexual violence against children in an oft handed way. 

On Thursday LaBarbera sent out he following Press Release not once, but THREE times via the news-wire service the Christian Communication Network:

Sandusky is married but obviously has a homosexuality (perversion) problem. Yet pro-”gay” liberals will deny any linkage between homosexuality and Sandusky’s rape/seduction of boys. In fact, after news of the Penn State scandal came to light, “gay” activists stressed that Sandusky is married and that most pedophile cases involve “straight, married men.” However, behavior is what matters – not a person’s marital status or self-described “sexual orientation.” Sandusky was married but was he really “straight” (sexually or morally)? Some inner demons or life traumas – probably in his own youth – caused him to lust for boys, wrecking untold misery in the lives of his victims. Behavior is the issue, and this was a case of a serial homosexual predator raping boys.

For LaBarbera and other right wing  supposedly “Christian” groups to use this horrible tragedy and its victims to spout lies and misinformation just to push their own hateful agenda is monstrous.   Numerous studies and reasearch from reputable organizations and accredited institutions of higher learning, unlike that of the sham research that LaBarbera and his ilk use, proves there is NO LINK whatsoever between being gay and child molestation,

We can not allow laBarbera and the “christian right” to use this tragedy, and those poor children for their own hateful purposes and they should finally be seen by all as the hateful sociopath monsters that they really are.

Bryan Fischer Blames Gays For Penn State Molestations Despite The Fact That Jerry Sandusky Is Married and Straight

Well it was just a matter of time I suppose.

Anti-gay hate groups like hateful Bryan Fischer of the AFA  are begining to use the child molestation tragedy at Penn State to further their hateful anti-gay agenda by using horrifically inaccurate statistics and turning an absolute blind eye to the fact that Jerry Sandusky, the man responsible for the molestations identifies as straight and is married.

Its absolutely disgusting that The American Family Association, Fischer and their ilk would take advantage of such a horrible event and the child victims to lie and further their hateful anti-gay agenda



This guy disgusts me, in all honesty as does what Penn  State allowed to happen repeatedly to children.  What further disguists me is that all of those people who knew and did nothing to either stop the abuse or would go to outside authorities can not be charged legally with anything.  This in my opinion is just the tip of a very huge iceberg and I believe there are more victims in the days to come who will come forward.

May we as a community rally around the victims, show what support we can, do everything we can to prevent this from happening again, educate our own children to help this from happening again and send a very clear and loud message that we don;t carfe who you are; this kind of thing will not be tolerated any more!
