Teo Turato had never modeled before until he ended up in front of the camera of John Clum last summer. Now we could make a beautiful story about how this came to happen. But what it comes down to is that it all happened in the most traditional and classic way. Teo, who never before stood model, decided he wanted to give it a try. And in order to do so and make sure that first result would be good, he carefully selected a photographer whom he believed could deliver the desired result. And that photographer was John Clum.

For quite a while John Clum has been looking for a model with a sculptured look. He wanted to work with images of a strong figure. Out of the blue Teo Turato contacted him with the request to shoot physique portraits. Since Teo was completely new, he had no professional references but after seeing a few personal photos, John agreed on giving it a go. As in any situation like this, you are never really sure of what the model will look like until you meet him in person. John was pleasantly surprised when that came to happen.

Teo’s physical appearance was exactly what John Clum had been looking for. John’s idea was to shoot a model with a body that looked like it was chiseled from stone. And Teo delivered exactly that. “It is always rewarding to work with someone unknown because  there is no persona that has evolved from past works that will influence my ideas and your audience  has no preconceived ideas of the model  from seeing other work he has been featured in.,” John says. “It really is like starting with a blank canvas with the only influence on you is the figure in front of you combined with your own perceptions and imaginings to guide the creative process.”
28 years old Teo Turato lives in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, but it seems obviously clear he is no American of origin. If anything, his name already gives it away. Teo is originally from Croatia, and has that indefinable Slavic look. A look that gives him something innocent but with a longing for more. Like a sinful saint. In Teo’s case  that “more” is modeling, and so he has not sit still since that fist shoot with John. Once he got the taste of it, he has worked with various photographers and signed up with a handful of model agencies. And so we think that we will hear and see more of Teo in the near future.
