Hutcherson and Thomas are the first openly lesbian contestants in the history of the pageant, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Hutcherson, 26, sports a mohawk and won the Miss Downtown Long Beach contest last year. She is a part-time UCLA student.
Thomas, 19, who won the Miss Abbey West Hollywood contest, is a more traditional looking beauty pageant contestant. She has traveled around the world volunteering, spending time in Thailand and Mongolia.
