Canadian LGBT history was made today as the first “official” gay college fraternity in Canada opened today at Montreal’s McGill University.

Canadian LGBT history was made today as the first “official” gay college fraternity in Canada opened today at Montreal’s McGill University.

The new frat, Delta Lambda Phi, will accept gay and bisexual men as well as any other men that want to join. It is one of 32 chapters and colonies of Delta Lambda Phi but is the first born outside of the United States.  And surprisingly Delta Lambda Phi is not under fire by conservatives on campus but by McGill’s University own LGBT group over the wording of an email sent out by DLP to recruit members and the frat invited all males or individuals who self-identify as male to join  which Queer McGill told the Toronto Star it believes the language separating “males” and “those who identify as male” implies that transgendered individuals are somehow not real men.

Regardless, DLP is actually a US college fraternity with a membership of gay, straight and bisexual men. Otherwise it’s similar to other Greek college frats. It was founded in 1986 by Vernon L Strickland III in Washington, DC. DLP is ast-growing in the US, where there are 28 gay fraternities on various college campuses. McGill is the first DLP chapter to be chartered outside the US.

Like other fraternities DPL will do charitable works, although drinking is put off until after meetings and members are discouraged from dating one another

But I am sure Rush Week must be sinmply FABULOUS!
Go DLP!  Rah Rah Rah!

Please help Support the Pro-Homosexual Clubs Found at 107 Catholic Colleges: by protesting the church!

This is an actual campaign that is going on right now being ran by the Catholic Church.  What I found amazing was the fact that these Catholic Universities even had supportive gay groups to begin with.  My advice, cal your local parish and stateclearly that you are in favor of these groups existing, protest teh Catholic in their attempt to get rid of these groups by not tithing and ask others to do the same, write letters to you Diocese Bishops in favor of these groups.  Something needs to be done to stop this nonsense from happening in the name of religion.

Why are pro-homosexual clubs allowed to promote anti-Catholic behavior on Catholic campuses?

After examining the official web sites of 244 Catholic universities and colleges in America, TFP Student Action found that 107 – or 43% – recognize student clubs that favor the homosexual agenda.  Many of these clubs promote same-sex “marriage,” open homosexuality in the military, and push for the mainstreaming of unnatural vice.

Here are a few examples:

Saint Norbert College’s Rainbow Alliance promotes anti-Catholic events such as Celebrate Bisexuality Day, National Coming Out Day, Transgender Day, and Gender Bender Dances.

The University of Notre Dame’s Core Council for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Questioning Students promotes a campus wide Day of Silence, and works to implement “educational programming on gay and lesbian issues.”

Georgetown University promotes a “Genderfunk Drag Ball” described in these terms:  “No matter gay, straight, or bi, lesbian, transgender life, only you can say you’re born this way. Uncap the lipstick, break out the fishnets, draw on the 'stache, unleash the chest hair, and redefine gender in your own way… Challenge yourself, challenge the binary.”

“Students are getting immoral messages from these clubs,” observed TFP Student Action Director John Ritchie.  “A sort of dictatorship of tolerance is slowly squeezing out the truth, silencing Catholic teaching right on Catholic campuses.  More and more Catholic college students are confronted with visible, active and well-funded pro-homosexual clubs that openly contradict natural law and undermine moral values.  To see this happening at Catholic institutions of higher learning is particularly disturbing.”

“TFP Student Action is rushing to collect 100,000 petitions, urging the presidents of Catholic universities to uphold authentic Catholic doctrine,” Ritchie said. “It’s time to correct the scandal and disband these 107 pro-homosexual clubs.”

Over 12,500 students and concerned parents have already signed the protest petition.

1. Sign your peaceful Save Our Catholic Colleges e-protest now.
You don’t need to be a student to sign.  Everyone can join.

2. Spread the word.  Help this campaign snowball by inviting your friends to participate.  Use email, facebook and others ways to share this message.

Purity is the Answer
TFP Student Action has no intention to defame or disparage anyone with this campaign. We do not harbor personal hatred against any individual.

By intellectually opposing individuals or organizations promoting the homosexual agenda, our only intent is to defend marriage, the family, Catholic education, and the precious remnants of Christian civilization in society.

Religious School to Employees: Swear You’re Not Gay, Or Else

A religious university in Georgia has told its staff that anyone who refuses to sign documents attesting to their heterosexuality will face termination, Canadian newspaper the Toronto Star reported on Nov. 4.

The stark choice was presented to the employees of Shorter University, a Southern Baptist school located in Rome, Georgia, in no uncertain terms: It’s either the school’s way or the highway.

"We understand that there are those who do not agree with our beliefs," the president of the university, Donald Dowless (pictured left), stated. "Anyone who chooses not to sign the documents will be choosing to end their employment with the university."

For sexual minorities in the school’s employ, the broader choice comes down to facing unemployment or pretending to be heterosexual and violating their personal integrity in order to hold on to their jobs.

There is a belief among much of the evangelical Christian community that gays "choose" to be romantically and sexually attracted to members of the same gender. Some evangelicals, swayed by mounting scientific evidence that gays are born with innate and unchangeable same-sex patterns of attraction and response, have begun to modify their message, declaring that even if same-sex attraction is indeed innate to gays, their conduct remains a matter of choice.

For some Biblical scholars, however, that argument rings hollow. Theologian and author Jonathan Dudley told EDGE earlier this year that the Bible references homosexuality only a handful of times, and many passages that seem to be anti-gay are not as clear-cut as anti-gay religious leaders claim. Dudley also noted that the Bible’s proscriptions against divorce are much more numerous and unequivocal than the scant few ambiguous passages addressing sexual contact between individuals of the same gender.

Author and religious scholar Jay Michaelson, in his newly published book "God vs. Gay," argues that passages often read as anti-gay are, in fact, describing sexual practices related to cultic worship that was denied the ancient Israelites--not same-sex relationships as they are currently understood. Michaelson also references an array of other behaviors that the Bible condemns, divorce among them, that are commonplace in today’s world, but that excite no fiery, demonizing speeches from either religious or political leaders.
But to Dowless, those ambiguous passages in Scripture were not at all vague or uncertain in meaning.

"These are biblical positions," Dowless told local news channel WSB-TV, according to a Nov. 3 NewsOne.com article. The news channel noted that Shorter University is a private school that does not receive taxpayer money. As a private institution, Shorter is allowed to disregard anti-discrimination laws and fire employees for being gay.
The "personal lifestyle statement" that employees of Shorter University are required to sign as a condition of being hired and remaining employed reads, "I reject as acceptable all sexual activity not in agreement with the Bible, including, but not limited to, premarital sex, adultery, and homosexuality."

The university also makes active membership in church a condition of employment. The article did not address the question of whether membership in a mosque or temple would be viewed as acceptable.
"Adultery and pre-marital sex are, in fact, choices," noted one employee, who spoke to the GA Voice. "Homosexuality is not. I know this point is up for debate in the fundamental Christian world, but to the rest of the world, we know that it isn’t a choice." That employee, who was not named, indicated that he would probably not sign the document, preferring to seek employment elsewhere.

Many Christian colleges and universities require their students, faculty, and staff to sign on to documentation setting out expectations for their beliefs and their professional and private conduct. But Shorter University’s uncompromisingly anti-gay stance is extreme even for religious institutions, said the president of another religious school, Hubert Krygsman of Canadian school Redeemer University College, which is located in Ontario.

"While most Christian universities and colleges in both Canada and the USA (many of which are members of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities) do have some form of conduct policy for employees, board members, and students, these policies are expressed in many different ways," Krygsman told the Toronto Star.

"I have never seen a case where an employee has been asked to sign a statement stating specifically that they are not homosexual," Krygsman added.

For locals with some affiliation to the university, the no-gays requirement from on high seemed a shame, if not a betrayal of the institution and its people. Actor and vlogger Jeffry Self, a native of Rome, Georgia who grew up "right around the corner" from the school, lamented the anti-gay directive in a Nov. 3 Huffington Post op-ed.
Self, who described becoming involved in the university’s theatrical productions as a teenager and meeting positive gay role models, recalled how the school once "served as a beacon of hope, a reminder that I wasn’t a freak and that I wasn’t alone in the world, and that all the things I dreamed of doing were in fact very possible.

"Perhaps today this might seem like the school’s worst nightmare, but to this happily out and proud gay man, Shorter University once served as a place of open-mindedness, intelligence, and love," Self added.
"Shorter is a Baptist college, so I understand that certain ’lifestyle choices’ might not be within their ideas and beliefs, but what I don’t understand is taking what used to be a really wonderful place full of smart, open-minded, creative, inspiring people and turning it into a place of such hostile judgment and fear," Self continued. "I cannot imagine a worse learning environment."

PA Professor calls lesbian student disgusting and abnormal

Christina Santiago, a student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania who was humliated by her professor during a class discussion on homosexuality.
SantiagoSantiago's business professor, who has not been identified, called it "disgusting, unnatural, and abnormal" and when Santiago identified herself as a lesbian he told her that the words applied to her. The teacher continued, telling her that "God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Adam.
Last night another student came forward.Michael Heller, a graduate of IUP, says the same thing happened to him, KDKA reports:
Heller, who is gay, described a list of anti-gay comments he claims the professor told the class: “God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve, and that being gay was an abomination. That anybody that was gay was going to burn in Hell and that’s what they deserved.”
Heller says he had to leave the room because he was in tears. “It destroyed me because at that point in my life, I wasn’t really sure who I was,” said Heller. “I had just come out of the closet a few years earlier.”
Heller said his complaints to the school at the time have apparently been ignored.
The professor has yet to be identified and the school says it is still in the "fact-finding" stage.

Some thoughts for the day

This Monday was the start of the 2011 Fall Semester and with sixteen credit hours it is going to be a very full load, but I am not complaining.  Courses if your curious are Women's Literature, Literature 1, Media/Power and Culture, Creative Non-Fiction and Writing Center Tutoring Course plus a four hour week week at the Writing Center.

That job as a tutor is the first real paying job I have had in twenty years and even though it is only four hours a week it is good being back in the workforce again.  Words are really inadequate to describe the feeling after so many years of volunteer work.  It's nothing against volunteering but it is a different animal when your paid. It is also going to hopefully a lot of fun as I get to help people with something I love to do---writing.

My Honors Class is Women's Literature and I am doing this ten page paper on Suffragist Matilda Joselyn Gage which I am very excited about.  I began research into her about four weeks ago now when I was in Banner Elk, North Carolina for the International Wizard of Oz Club Convention.  I will also be doing a small video on the Suffragist Movement.  It is also the first time I am doing anything remotely Oz/Baum related for school but the plan is it will lead to a MUCH bigger project hopefully.

I also spoke with the director of the Honor's Program this week and am seriously thinking of continuing on and getting a Master's Degree but will make a decision closer to graduation in 2013.  I also have started thinking about Spring 2012 classes and have a list started of classes I would like to take.  I would have never thought two years ago that I would be so wrappped up into college life or that I would be doing so well but because I work so hard and focus a lot of my time on it I am doing I feel very well.

Well until sometime later today when I post some fashion stuff,  try to have some fun and I'll see you then.
