My First Mood Board for my classes

Well it's taken a little bit but finally here is the very first Mood Board I created for my Fashion Visuals Class.  This was also my first Mood Board in over twenty years, when I use to work as a window dresser for a major retail department store.  Iuse to do these boards all the time to get an overall feel how I wanted the windows to look or a specific section of the store.  It's nice being back to that time in my life, but know fashion related.  Hope you enjoy it!

"From the fine bone china and the gold gilt mirror I wanted to try to convey my inspiration from a class that very few people are in, one of extreme wealth.  The Oriental rug, the decorated porcelain plate, the mahogany chair all give us a glimpse in to the glorious past of the Rockefeller's, the Seiberling's, the Hershey's and the Vanderbilt's."

"The main inspiration for me came from a drawing of the antique dress.  Muted creams, the rust brocade, the velvet bows, and the multiple strands of pearls; this woman is clearly one of exquisite taste, style and refinement when it came time to pick her attire.  Probably direct from France and the latest style she epitomizes the mood I wanted to be inspired by to become a collection of modern clothing, that said all things I needed it to say."

"I feel that in this era of Walmart and one stop shopping many of us miss the glamour, the allure and the prestige many put into making their homes, their wardrobes and their lives.  We need to return to that time and appreciate and celebrate our abundance."

Mood Board and Coat Project

Well as promised here it is--one of my Fashion Visual class mood boards and the project that went with it.  We had to pick any culture we wanted and we had to use at least one t-shirt.  We also had to have a two dimensional and three dimensional effect to the quote.

So here is alos the description that was on the back of the mood board:

I was inspired by Jewish culture, especially the old world Hasidic faith founded in Poland in the mid 18th century.  Aside from the religious aspects of the Hasidic faith I was drawn to the prayer shawl or Tallit, which is worn during morning prayers, weedays and Shabbat.

The main inspiration was the Tzitzit or the tassel at the four corners of the prayer shawl, which remind us as Jews to observe all of G-d's commandments.  When I came up with this idea I wanted to try to convey the very rich woven tapestry that is my personal Jewish faith.  That while I am in prayer, three times a day, I am set apart for a brief moment from the madness that can be our planet and our personal lives, by being engulfed in the prayer shawl I invite a tranquil and intorspective time where I can speak to G-d where he inspires and moves me in ways no one else can.  That this very private and sacred time is now being opened to you with the creation of this coat; I hope it invites you to find that time for yourself.

The coat was originally four double extra large t-shirts dyed a light cream color, with a few left white.  Included in this coat is linen canvas dyed a deeper brown color and some left undyed as well.  The material then was cut into strips about three inches wide and woven together.  The woven material is than all top stitched in blue thread to stabilize the weaving.  I used Blue Satin for the lining.

The weaving is also representative of the custom of Jews who are in mourning of ripping their clothes which started centuries ago and is most remembered in the story of Job. Job 1:20 "At this, Job got up and tore his robe, shaved his head, fell to the ground and said 'The Lord hath giveth and the Lord hath taken away."

The layout for the board I wanted to convey the htought that the prayer shawl is for some an everyday part of our lives and for some identifies not only who we are but also what we believe and that reality sets us apart.  That we can find the peaceful, the etheral and the tranquil in our lives and all we have to do is look inward.

I can't believe this is post 501, where does the time go?  Somehow you all have been reading along, changes and all from those early days of doom and gloom that the posts where to the postings about Wizard of Oz and collecting to now fashion.  You my readers have been faithful and somehow readership just keeps soaring.  Maybe I have hit on something, maybe I am so frank, so honest, so open people are intrigued by what I will say next. Maybe it is because I talk about fashion or things that intrest me.  Maybe its becasue as Sally Field said "You like me, you really like me."  I would love to know what it is that makes you come back reading.

This weekend believe it or not was spent doing nothing more than homework.  The whole damn freaking weekend, but in all reality I know it will pay off in the end. Maybe I will make the Dean's List again this semester, maybe somebody will notice how hard I am working and how very desperately I want this more than life itself.

Maybe it will pay off in my intership when the time comes, or pay off when I go to study abroad or when I leave for the work force because people will see how dedicated I am and how badly I want it.  Facebook asks the question in some online quizzes about the people you know if they would sell everything to get successful.  The answer for me is a very simple YES! No doubt in my mind, no regret, no questions.  You get tired of being nobody.  You get tired of feeling like yo haven't made a difference.  You get tired of feeling lonely.  You get tired of not being what you want and need to be for yourself.  If so many people can do it why can't I?

I think for me the answer is I need to get more focused on how I spend alot of my time.  So many hours a day for homework, so many hours a day to write which I love and so many an hours a day to sew which for me is breathing.  To create IS LIFE, without it there is literally nothing!  Brutal isn't it?  It though is the truth and I am beginning to understand it.

I am going to go out on a limb and say at the moment I feel very desperately alone.  In the near month back in school my family has not called once to see how I am. To see how things are going in school.  To see if I am alright.  It grows tiring.  I feel like I have to "pull teeth" almost to get any response and I am tired of it beyond words.  I want people involved in my life because they want to be.  I want people to know what I am doing because they want to know.  I need somehow to know I am needed in someway and that i make the difference.  Sounds desperate doesn't it?  I guess it is, but it is the raw truth.

I have this huge project with the "Women of History Fashion Show" that I HAVE to start tomorrow or I will never get it done. I need to finish homework that is due Wednesday and frankly I need to get back to myself into the habit of meditating daily and doing yoga daily somehow.  Like I have said before and I will say it again I feel like so much of time is wasted.  How all do you feel about the time you have?  I would love knowing I am not alone.

Well until next time kids I am so glad we had this time together and I hope you have been enjoying the new mood boards I have been posting.
