Currently Chicago is home to approximately 3,7 million inhabitants.

Dave Ouano is one of them. Completely self-taught, Dave has built himself a successful career as photographer and has been making name for himself by shooting club and event photos for magazines and papers such as Windy City Times, ChicagoPride.com, GoGuide and Nightspots for over 18 years.

A period in which his work of course not went unnoticed. The visibility he gained with those many publications, landed him many corporate and commercial assignments and clients, and Dave Ouano is now a well sought-after photographer for many local businesses as well as fashion editorials.

 This month Fashion Chicago Magazine will feature one of his latest editorials.

The story of the fallen angel has been used and described in many ways. But if there ever was such an event, we tend to believe it must have happened in Chicago.

The city is known for its ghastly winds and so it seems logical that nothing but a bird or a jet driven plane would manage to stay in the sky. Certainly no angel. The classic fallen angle theme is also the main source of inspiration for Dave Ouano’s movement and jumping series.

Trying to defy gravity and allowing the human form to separate from Earth, even if it is for just a moment, has driven Dave to compose a wonderful gallery of images of models, actors and dancers in several stages of airborne positions.

 Like fallen angels desperately trying to climb back into the skies.

 Since these are by definition no positions you can stay in for longer than a split second, you can imagine the skill and timing sensitivity necessary to create such a portfolio. Impressive is the first word that comes to mind.

Dave Ouano loves to work with dancers or just individuals who can move well, are fearless and can express emotion through their body movement, energy and facial expression (or the lack of it).

Whether it truly is driven by the fact he lives in the Windy City or not, Dave believes it can be invigorating to defy gravity whenever possible, where most of us go through life always connected to the ground. It is this way of working that injects so much personality and charm into Dave Ouano’s original work.

 It really does say a lot about Dave’s way of thinking. Unlimited and reaching for the stars. Visionary. Exactly as his fellow Chicagoans have always done.

It’s Brad Goreski’s World

He is cute, he is sassy and he is definitely fashionable. He is the adorable Brad Goreski who we all came to love on the Rachel Zoe Project. As his new show, "It’s a Brad, Brad World," gets ready to premiere on Bravo it was a pleasure to sit down with Brad.

What is this season of "It’s a Brad, Brad World" focusing on?

The show is focused on me building my business and me as the lead role of stylist as opposed to the assistant role I had with Rachel Zoe. The reason I wanted to do the show was to show the process. My personal and family life is a big focus on this show as I wanted to let people see the other side of my life; my fantastic family and great partner/boyfriend.

There has been some controversy in the news as Rachel’s camp was saying you left to have some down time and they are upset you started your own Stylist business. How do you respond to that?

Unfortunately that wasn’t discussed when I left. The whole point of me going off on my own was to be a lead stylist. I went with Rachel to learn, that’s what most assistants do. I broke off with the intention of being my own stylist.

What are the differences between Rachel’s show and your show?

Rachel is at the top of her game... I had to prove myself as an independent stylist. It’s a lot for a celebrity to put their image in your hands. The pace is different.

How hard was it to transition into lead stylist?

It was very hard. It was a whole different amount of stress. The last thing I wanted to do with Rachel was disappoint her. Now it’s about disappointing myself. Being a boss in general is something I had to learn.

Are there any drawbacks after being associated with Rachel Zoe?

No, I think it was an extremely positive experience. The only set back is having to work that much harder to prove I have my own sense of style.

Did the cameras complicate anything as you were going about your day?

I think in some instances yes, as there are times you bump into a camera, etc....but I do have to say that the crew had this production down to a well-oiled machine so it worked so well. They were kind of like Ninja’s everywhere.

Were you at all nervous about sharing your relationship with America?

I was, but I am very proud of my 10 year relationship and he is such a great person; he is funny and charming and handsome, so I though why not. We have a normal life with a family around us that supports us. I have been blessed with a guy who is a strong supporter of me and I feel it’s a positive representation of a gay couple at home. I felt this was an important message to put out there with all the bullying and homophobia going on in the world.

Due to the curse of relationships on reality television, did you have a "don’t go there" look?

No, we made an agreement when he agreed to do the show that if we weren’t having fun or if either of us felt we were acting differently on the show we would address it immediately. Luckily that never happened. In actuality, the show brought us closer together. It was a positive incredible experience.

Who are your fashion icons?

In terms of men, I get inspiration from Tom Brown, Tom Ford and on celebrity front Ryan Gosling; I absolutely love him as he gets it spot-on all the time...he is my number 1. For women Emma Stone and Kirsten Dunst are killing it!

How long did it take you to find your own clientele?

I left October and I get my first client, Jessica Alba, at the end of November. So it was about 2 months. After her, it took another 2 months to get another client. But thank god I am busy now. I do owe a lot to Jessica for taking a chance on me and I will always be grateful to her!

Who are styling for right now?

Jessica Alba, Rashida Jones, Noomi Rapace, Abigail Spencer, Shay Mitchell, Christina Ricci, Demi More and a few more are on the horizon.

Who would you love to dress?

It’s been such an organic process finding the people I have worked with. I would love to dress Kristin Wig and Emma Watson.

What have been your career highlights for 2011?

My shoot in the September issue of Details and my first In Style shoot in the March issue.

What are your fashion ideas for the New Years?

Denim shirts, I am obsessed with them as they go with everything. It has replaced the white shirt with me. It’s cool and relaxed.

What is your definition of style?

The way you present yourself out in the world and what makes you feel good on a daily basis is your style. Be bold and brave and if it makes you happy on that day and you feel like you can conquer the world than you are in fashion!

What is about you that makes everyone take notice?

I think it’s because I wear things that people wouldn’t picture a guy wearing. I feel I keep it masculine but yet kind of show girly. I have loved clothes my entire life. The wackier the clothes are, the better for me. I like to push the boundaries always!

Are you having any collaboration with designers?

I can definitely say yes, but I cannot say who, but it will be in the near future.

What’s in your emergency kit on a styling job?

I don’t go anywhere without top stick, a hand steamer or footpads. They are all a must!

I hear you are writing a book, what’s it going to be about?

It’s called "Born to be Brad" and it will be out at the end of February and it’s about where my influences came from, internships, and all my experiences. It’s also about my life; being bullied, growing up and how everything shaped me into who I am. I hope it’s an inspirational story for people. I am really proud of it.

What’s ahead for Brad?

My big mission in life is to help get more color out into the streets. Pick the one item that is going to be colorful and put neutrals around it. Don’t we all just want the world to be a more colorful place!
Award season is upon us... I had my first Golden Globe fitting last night. I also have a new project that will be announced after the New Year. A lot of exciting stuff is on the horizon. I am grateful to have a great team to work with me!

Four People Viciously Gay Bashed At The Legendary Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel

The legendary Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel located on Hollywood Boulevard which was and financed by a group including Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford and Louis B. Mayer, in 1927 has become a site where four people were injured in a savage gay bashing attack earlier this month.
 WeHo Confidential reports the victims were returning to their rooms at the hotel about 2 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 19 when they were attacked by a group of 10 people said to be gang members who started calling them”faggots,”

They began attacking one male and then threw the female of the group to the ground. Another male member of the five stepped in to pull the female away out and try to the other male victim, and he immediately sustained a blow to the head knocking him out. The attackers continued kicking the man in the head even after he had slumped to the ground, causing enormous cuts
and gashes on his face and body and resulting in a concussion.

In all four of the five people are said to have been injured — one so bad that he “awoke in a pool of blood.”
After the incident the group of five checked out of the hotel and pon checking out they requested a refund for being placed in such a terrifying situation in a place where people should expect to feel safe. The manager denied the refund, stating, “I’m the one who has to deal with your blood
all over the floor.”

The LAPD is investigating and has identified some of the gay-bashers thanks to surveillance video. The identified criminals are gang members from Oakland.

Gay Matchmaker: Bottoming Will Make You A Total Loser

A lot of things have been said about anal sex lately and a lot of it is just ot good.

A press release from Paul Angelo, a gay matchmaker from Miami who claims that “receptive anal sex decreases self-esteem by forcing the person to assume a submissive position during an act of pleasure. This confuses the brain to believe that a feminine-like behavior is appropriate for a man and in turn reduces the man’s assertiveness, confidence and will power.”

Angelo explains that because men behave differently than women, the brain is taught to accept as valid all behaviors that are associated with masculinity and strength. The moment that the brain receives messages that are NOT congruent with the definition of masculinity—he person gets confused. Aggressive or “pushy” bottoms are an example of this confusion. Those are gay men who succeeded in business and show masculinity in day-to-day life, but in the bedroom – end up engaging in receptive anal intercourse.

“The worse part about this destruction of self-esteem is that it’s on the subconscious level. A person will not feel anything during the act. And the pleasure derived from the act will override the logic necessary to correct the behavior. In addition, there is a delay between the act of anal intercourse and the reduction of self-esteem of the person” says Angelo.

Angelo says gay men over 40—his main client base, by the way,—should engage in a 60-day moratorium on the butt love.

What about oral sex—will your life fall apart just as quickly if you’re the passive partner in a blowjob? Or maybe you’ll just get passed over for a promotion and never get rid of that spare tire no matter how many squats you do.
For those still confused about Angelo’s theory, he lays it out with a rather colorful example:

“If you were to put all gay men together in a big warehouse and place the ‘bottoms’ on the left and the ‘tops’ on the right, you’d start seeing negative consequences of the anal sex play out in real life for the bottoms such as: disrespect for their general health, failure at work, failure in love and relationships.”

My question or thought for the day does any of this apply to heterosexual anal intercourse" and if so why isn't anyone talking? Hmmmm makes you wonder?

Trans Candidate Seeking Pakistani Office: We’re Citizens Too

The president of Pakistan’s She-male Association, Shahana Abbas Shani, has announced that she will run for a seat on the Provincial Assembly of Punjab, the country’s most populous province.

Speaking with Pakistan’s Express Tribune this week, Shani says her goal is to bring to light problems faced by the country’s large but largely disenfranchised transgender community.
“There is no other way for us to be heard,” says Shani, “and now when the Supreme Court of Pakistan has allowed us to have an identity card, we will fight for our rights.”

In 2009, Pakistan’s chief justice ordered that the country’s estimated 80,000 to 300,000 hijras be recognized as a distinct third gender on national identity cards. But the ruling has been mostly ignored, causing hardship for many hijras, especially during times of crisis—like the country’s recent severe flooding—when identity cards are needed in order to receive government aid.

Shani says that since women and minorities already have reserved seats in Pakistan’s National Assembly, so should her community.

As Shani points out, “We are also citizens of Pakistan.”

If the Southern Poverty Law Center hadn’t already designated the American Family Association a hate group, we’d be afraid that the group would have something of a credibility crisis on its hands after endorsing New Gingrich for president.

Newt’s virulently anti-gay, so there’s no problem there. The thing is, he’s also virulently anti-fidelity, having twice divorced wives he cheated on to marry his then mistresses. Wife number one notoriously got the Newt boot for “not being young or pretty enough to be First Lady.” Oh, and also having cancer.

Wife number two was also divorced after falling ill. Newt must have skipped the “in sickness and in health” part of his marriage vows.

The Des Moines Register writes:

The fact is simple — marriage equals money. Groups like AFA need gay people more than they need to “protect marriage.” If AFA wanted to protect marriage, it would be supporting laws to make divorce harder, not candidates who serve as its poster child.

 

No matter how much one twists logic, it is factually (and morally) impossible to reconcile the desire to “protect marriage” with the endorsement of Newt Gingrich. This was a disastrous decision by an organization that appears to care more about profiting from gay fearmongering than strengthening marriage.

The moral of this story, therefore, is clear. If you abandon two wives for two mistresses all you need to do is oppose the happiness of two people of the same sex to have your moral creds restored. Meet the Pharisees of the 21st century; a bunch of sad sacks time is leaving behind.

Rick Perry Clueless About the Sodomy Laws that Protect

 

Like we needed more proof that Rick Perry will never be the Caucus choice. During a C-Span interview in Iowa, Perry seemed completely oblivious in regards to Lawrence v. Texas, the 2003 Supreme Court Case that overturned Texas sodomy law while he was governor.

When an audience member asked a question about the famous case, Rick Perry repeated the question including the name of the case, but then stumbled. “We have a federal government that is out of control from the standpoint of spending,” Perry began his response, “and I wish I could tell you I knew every Supreme Court case… I’m not a lawyer but here’s what I do know, I know they’re spending too much money in Washington, D.C.” From here, Perry launches in to a stump speech about spending.

Yeah, too bad Rick has totally weighed in on the case many time before. Sneaky, sneaky…

In any case, you’d think a guy accused of being embroiled in many gay affairs would know a thing or two about the laws which allow him to do so. Then again, we’re talking about Rick Perry here, so maybe that’s just expecting too much.

Another Pedophile Coach Arrested, This Time for Filming Middle Schoolers Showering

A high-ranking Bernardsville Middle School educator and past Somerset County freeholder candidate is facing charges that he allegedly recorded boys showering at Immaculata High School in Somerville, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities last week arrested Patrick Lott, a 54-year-old assistant middle school principal, after videos of nude teenagers were found in his Somerville home. Authorities used a Superior Court search warrant to enter his house on Dec. 13 and Dec. 16, Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano said.

According to Soriano, the videos showed teenagers showering in the Immaculata High School boys’ communal shower area. Nine of them are under 16 years old, Soriano said.

Police found three years worth of shower footage in Lott’s home. An examination of the school locker room turned up a group of devices used for the secret videotaping.

Let’s be perfectly clear here though, Patrick Lott is a married, heterosexual man. His daughter even attends the school he was filming students at. Let’s not for even a second get it twisted that pedophilia and homosexuality are two very different things.

Should Presidential Candidates Get Involved with N.H. Marriage Debate?

Will marriage equality play a role in the New Hampshire primary?

With a vote on a bill that would repeal the state’s marriage equality law that could potentially coincide with the Jan. 10 presidential primary, this question remains all too real possibility. Will raising the issue with independent-minded New Hampshire voters prove an effective campaign strategy?

"My sense is that it would not serve a candidate’s interests in New Hampshire to highlight that issue," said Dante Scala, an associate professor of political science at the University of New Hampshire. "It’s just not something that most New Hampshire Republicans consider a key issue."

A UNH Survey Center poll conducted between Sept. 26 and Oct. 2 found that 62 percent of New Hampshire voters oppose efforts to repeal the law, while 81 percent of respondents said marriage equality in the Granite State has not impacted their life. Forty-four percent of New Hampshire voters said they are actually more likely to vote against a candidate who backs the bill.
A coalition of groups that oppose the repeal measure unveiled a new ad earlier this month with three Republicans and one Democrat who urge state lawmakers to vote against it, but this opposition has not stopped several GOP presidential candidates from speaking out in support of the bill.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney told a gay Army veteran as he sat next to his husband in a Manchester restaurant earlier this month that he supports efforts to repeal the state’s marriage equality law. Texas Gov. Rick Perry applauded the bill’s sponsor, state Rep. David Bates (R-Windham,) and other lawmakers who back the measure in a speech he gave at the Cornerstone Action’s annual banquet in late October. Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman described the federal Defense of Marriage Act as serving a "useful purpose" at an event at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., earlier this month, but a volunteer for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told EDGE in the campaign’s downtown Manchester offices on Monday, Dec. 26, that Republican presidential candidates should stay out of the debate over the state’s marriage equality law.

"In fact, most New Hampshire Republicans with their party would spend less time and energy focusing on such issues," added Scala.

New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley had an overtly partisan response.

"Despite more Republican primary voters opposing the repeal of marriage equality than supporting it, marriage equality has not been an issue in the primary, namely because all of the candidates except Fred Karger support its repeal," he told EDGE, noting that he expects a major Republican presidential candidate will support marriage equality by the 2016 primary.

"It was a significant missed opportunity for one of the major candidates to break out of the pack by focusing on LGBT issues," said Buckley.

Are gay New Hampshire primary voters paying attention?

Peterborough resident Bill St. John was among the handful of patrons at the Breezeway, a gay bar in downtown Manchester, on a recent Tuesday night. A special education teacher, St. John said he would probably vote for Huntsman if he were a Republican.

"He seems... just very conservative, a good businessman again and somebody that can possibly-and I strongly say possibly-get this country back to where it belongs," he said. "There’s no reason why this country should be in the debt we’re in. We shouldn’t be trillions of dollars in debt."

St. John applauded Romney as a "wonderful businessman" who left Bain Capital to run the troubled 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He was far less certain whether Romney would make a good president.
"He left his company to save the Olympics and he did a wonderful job," said St. John. "He can do a great job as the president, but I believe he is... for a lack of [a] better [word] a little too prejudice for my taste. Politicians can say anything and say they’re going to do anything, but when you let us know who you are for so many years-you’ve been in the same religion since you’ve been a child, you’re not going to change your spots too easily."

MEXICO: Gay Marriage Comes To Cancun

Legal same-sex marriages are about to commence in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, home to popular vacation destinations like Cancun.

Cancun and other resort areas on the Mexican Caribbean will have a new attraction for gay and lesbian couples from the United States, Canada and Europe, allowing them to legalize their unions thanks to a quirk in the local civil code, activist Patricia Novelo told Efe. “This market niche ... is very attractive for European, Canadian and American (homosexual) couples,” said the spokesperson for Colectivo Diversidad. Novelo said that in January the first same-sex group wedding will be held in the resort area as part of local support for the human rights of the gay community. She said that already several couples have expressed their wish to formalize their unions at the ceremony. She said gay and lesbian marriages are possible in Quintana Roo, “thanks to a legal gap in the Civil Code,” which only makes mention of “people interested in getting married,” without specifying their gender.

Gay marriage is already legal in Mexico City and unions performed there are recognized throughout the nation. Hotels, airlines, and tour companies are already working to launch same-sex marriage packages to Cancun, Cozumel, and other beach towns in Quintana Roo.
